Royal Gorge Whitewater Festival

The premier event of the summer

Entering it’s 11th year, the Royal Gorge Whitewater Festival continues to be the premier event of the summer in beautiful Cañon City, Colorado!

Since its beginnings, community organizations and area businesses have been coming together to support and celebrate the lifeblood of our community: the Arkansas River and all that it means to our community and the State of Colorado. Each year thousands of local and visiting outdoor enthusiasts of all ages enjoy exciting white water activities, local and national bands, vendors and lots of fun land-based activities throughout a fun-filled weekend in the heart of Canon City.

In addition to the immediate economic boost this event provides our community, all net proceeds from “Whitewater” are returned to our community in the form of grants for non-profit organizations, area business support, additional Arkansas River and kayak park improvements, as well as youth and community river education.

The causes behind the fun…

Royal Gorge Whitewater Festival (RGWF or just “Whitewater”) is a unique event in Colorado! It is a cooperative effort of three community driven non-profit organizations in Fremont County all focused on enhancing life in our community. Each of the organizations behind “Whitewater” has committed to the continuation of the event through a written agreement, recognizing the importance of the event to our area and sustaining it for years to come. Below is a brief look at each of these organizations.

The Fremont Community Foundation (FCF) is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to improving the quality of life in Fremont County, Colorado.
While our community has been without a local “United Way” chapter for several years, our Foundation has been working to provide that very important support role to the Fremont County community since 1999.
FCF puts on fundraisers each year, with all net proceeds raised given away at the end of each year to other non-profit agencies within Fremont County.

Royal Gorge ~ River Initiative Organization is an all volunteer non-profit with a continuing mission to foster good use and stewardship of the river corridor in the region.
RG~RIO is raising river awareness through three avenues:
• River corridor improvement, restoration and conservation.
• River activities and education.
• River events and promotion
RG~RIO proudly support youth paddle sports and is currently the parent club of the national champion men under 19 rafting team.

The Canon City Chamber of Commerce provides effective leadership and opportunities for the benefit of its members and community, and promotes the Greater Cañon City area as an outstanding place to live, work, play and conduct business.
The Cañon City Chamber of Commerce provides a first point of contact for individuals, businesses, and visitors interested in our community through numerous services and free information packets covering relocation and visitor planning.
